The 2019 season is in the books, but the accolades continue to roll in!
Congrats goes out to Curtis Williams (USATF Florida's Male Athlete of the Year & National Record Holder in the Long Jump) & Nadia Collins (USATF Florida Nat'l Champion) for being recognized for their major accomplishments this past summer.

Additionally Curtis was recently recognized as a 2019 recipient of the AAU Joel Ferrell Outstanding Performance Memorial Award.
Awarded annually by AAU, the award recognizes the athletic ability and sportsmanship of an athlete representing each official sport at the AAU JR. Olympics.
With a leap of 7.46m (24"7), Curtis not only cemented his 1st Place finish at the #AAUJROGames, but set a new age group National Record in the process!

We just ended one of our most challenging, yet rewarding seasons at both the USATF & AAU Junior Olympics in Sacramento & Greensboro respectively, and we are proud to say Zoom excelled against the tough National Competition!

USATF JOs

Competing out in California, Zoom sent three of our more seasoned athletes, Nadia Collins, Alexandria Kennedy, and Curtis Williams. Despite intense, dry heat (temps exceeded 100 degrees daily), the trio prospered bringing home 2 National titles, and 5 overall medals & All- American titles.
  • Curtis Williams- Long Jump National Champ; 4th in 400m
  • Nadia Collins- Long Jump National Champ; 7th in 400m
  • Alex Kennedy- 4th in Triple Jump

  • Alex Kennedy- Triple Jump National Champ
  • Curtis Williams- Long Jump National Champ
  • Nadia Collins- Long Jump National Champ
  • Elijah Bighem- 8th in Triple Jump
  • Jayden Jean- 8th in Long Jump
  • Kamari Jones- 7th in 4x1 Relay
  • Isaiah Bighem- 7th in 4x1 Relay
  • Michael Ash- 7th in 4x1 Relay
  • Malek Jackson- 7th in 4x1 Relay

POST SEASON SUPERLATIVES CONTINUE FOR ZOOM NATION

For those of you who don't follow us on Social media, you may be unaware of our latest athletes to earn All-American status!

Congratulations goes out to Da'Vion Hepburn (3rd place, Long Jump) and Manito Quinones (4th place, Long Jump), who both earned All-American status while competing against some of the nation's best at the AAU Primary National Championships this past weekend in Orlando. Great job fellas- Zoom Nation is proud of you both!

CALI- BOUND- USATF REGION 4 RECAP

Zoom Nation also was well represented in Rock Hill, SC with 8 of our own competing for a chance to claim a spot at the USATF Jr. Olympics later this month in Sacramento.

Folks often refer to Region 4 as the ' Region of Death' because of the difficulty in making it out due to stiff competition and this year was no different. Despite the challenges, Zoom will be well represented in California this year, across 11 events. Advancing to Sacramento are:
  • Alexandria Kennedy- Triple Jump (Region Champ), Long Jump (Region Champ), 100mH (2nd Place), & 200mH (2nd Place)
  • Nadia Collins- Long Jump (Region Champ), 400m (2nd Place), & 200m (4th Place)
  • Amaya Jones- 1500m (4th Place)
  • Curtis Williams- Long Jump (Region Champ), 400m (2nd Place), & 200m (2nd Place)

In addition to the 67 athletes who earned qualification into the AAU Jr. Olympics, Zoom will look to add more post season accolades in the coming weeks!

Zoom Athletes Excel On the Big Stage of the JO Games

8/1/2018

After nearly 1600 miles traveled and being away from home for 6 days, the 2018 USATF JO Games is officially a wrap!

Zoom had a stellar showing and we saw our athletes excel all week long! Leading things off was Christian Lawrence in the triathlon. Christian battled through 3 grueling events and made All-American status with his 5th place finish! He followed that up later in the week with a 4th place medal-winning performance in the shotput. What a great first year with Zoom for Christian!

Curtis Williams, our reigning national champion in the Long Jump, left no doubt on his 1st jump of competition and never relinquished his lead, earning ANOTHER National Championship in the long jump! He quickly followed that up with a medal in the High Jump, placing 4th overall and earning All-American status in that event as well. Curtis ends the year with 3 postseason medals to his name.

Micahi Danzy had one thing on his mind entering his long jump competition: get on that podium! Micahi unleashed a huge jump in the prelims to make the final and finished 2nd in the country, earning his 1st- ever individual  national medal.

Next up were our 4x1 Relay teams. Our relay ladies, Ameion Hamlet, A'Kyrah O'Banner,  Madison King, and Miahna Harden won their prelim race and then improved on their time in the finals to place 4th in the country and earn All-American status! The ladies, to no one's surprise, were quite pumped after their race.

The 11-12yr old team of Kamari Jones, Isaiah & Elijah Bighem, and Micahi Danzy, entered Nationals with a strong belief that they could come away with a National title. When they made it through prelims with the #2 seed, it gave them even more confidence.   In the finals, the guys executed flawlessly and ran away with the race, in a blazing 49.28 time to win their national title!

On Sunday, the ladies on the 4x4 wanted close things out on a high note, and boy, did they deliver! The team of Miahna Harden, Nadia Collins, A'Kyrah O'Banner, and Madison King delivered a 4th place finish in an impressive time of 3:50.28!

All in all, it was a very successful week, which saw Zoom wrap things with:
  • 17 All- Americans
  • 5 National Champions
  • 26 Top-25 finishes

Despite the rain's best effort, nothing could dampen the spirits and the effort of Zoom athletes as we descended on Rome, GA !

17 Athletes have advanced to this month's USATF Jr. Olympics and will be taking their talents to Greensboro, NC to compete in the final meet of the season.
